WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY TO EAT BROCCOLI TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ITS NUTRIENTS?
Although not the favorite of many people, broccoli is a healthy and nutritious vegetable full of essential vitamins and minerals. The plant is rich in vitamins A, C, D and K, as well as a flavonoid known as kenferol which gives the veggie its anti-inflammatory properties. Besides these nutrients, it also contains glucosinolates, which have potent anti-cancer properties.
Broccoli are rich in compounds that can fight the 3 biggest metabolic illnesses of today – chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and toxic overload in the body. In short terms, broccoli is great and should be a part of your daily diet. But, do you know the proper way of eating broccoli? Do you need to eat it raw, boiled or steamed? Not knowing how to prepare the vegetable can destroy its nutrients, but we’re going to show you what you need to do.
When cooked, most of the nutrients in broccoli are destroyed. Instead of cooking, one study suggested steaming the vegetable so it can retain its nutrients. There are 2 ways you can do this without a steamer:
- Pan and colander
Put a pot with 1-2 tablespoons of water on a stove, then put a colander that fits inside the pot. Now, put the broccoli in the colander and cover with a lid, then cook for a few minutes. This will heat the water and steam the vegetable nicely.
- The microwave method
This method is very simple – put a tablespoon of water inside a container in the microwave, then put the broccoli inside and cover with a plate. Set the microwave on high temperature for a couple of minutes and that’s it. Enjoy your steamed broccoli! The same technique works with other vegetables as well. It will retain all the nutrients within the vegetable and allow you to benefit from it properly.
